About Directive 2008/98/EC - the Waste Framework Directive
Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on waste and repealing certain Directives (the Waste Framework Directive, WFD) sets out the legal framework for the treatment of waste in the European Union. It establishes the waste hierarchy, defines when a substance ceases to be waste, and lays down extended producer responsibility, permitting, planning and reporting obligations. This is why we built this website, where we present the most up-to-date consolidated version of the WFD in a structured and easy-to-navigate format.
Using the latest consolidated text of Directive 2008/98/EC from EUR-Lex as our source material, we split it into individual pages corresponding to articles and annexes of the legal text and added several enhancements to improve navigation and usability.
